Schoolmates were jealous of Leigh Edward as a child. His father had his own confectionery business and he was ‘chief taste tester’ in the factory.

Now as the General Manager of Ferndale Confectionery, he is enjoying the sweet taste of success. Mr Edward was awarded the BGT Jobs and Training Young Business Person of the Year at the Ballarat Business Excellence Awards on Thursday night, (August 30, 2018).

“To be named as the inaugural winner of the Young Business Person of the Year in such a dynamic business environment is a great pleasure,” he said.

With a passion for identifying market opportunities, Mr Edward is leading the company’s expansion to Asia, and they’ve just built a state of the art marshmallow production facility that will bring 25 new jobs to the region.

“In business and in life you need… a passionate team, a loving and supportive family and a great mentor. Above all else you need opportunity. I am lucky. I have had loads of the above… I have one of the best jobs in the world. I get to go to work every day and make lollies,” he said.

As printed in the Ballarat Courier 31/08/2018.
